(Reuters) - The G4S takeover saga finally came to an end on Tuesday after a majority of the security company s shareholders accepted a 3.8 billion pound ($5.28 billion) offer from U.S. rival Allied Universal, snubbing hostile Canadian bidder GardaWorld.
Allied Universal said it had received valid acceptances representing roughly 79% of the G4S share capital. The threshold was 50% plus one G4S share. My team and I look forward to working with Allied to support a successful integration of the two businesses, said G4S Chief Executive Ashley Almanza.
The merger between G4S and private-equity backed Allied Universal will create the world s largest private security company, generating more than $18 billion in revenue and employing more than 750,000 security guards and other staff.

PARIS (Reuters) - Myanmar s parallel civilian government and rights groups on Tuesday called on Total and other oil firms operating in the country to suspend payments to the military-controlled state following last month s coup.
The calls come a day after Total said it was worried about the situation in Myanmar, where scores have been killed in demonstrations against the Feb. 1 coup, while also stressing the importance of its gas projects in the energy-starved country. The coup has left international oil companies with operations in Myanmar with no option other than to suspend their relationships with the military junta, the parallel civilian government said in a letter addressed to Total and posted on its official Facebook page.

Central Hawke s Bay Police are asking for information after a break-in at Central Hawke s Bay College on Monday night.
Constable Andy Walker said the karate dojo on the college grounds was broken into and extensively damaged, while an attempt had also been made to enter the college canteen.
Suspicious activity has also been reported on Domain Road, Abbotsford Road and Matthew Street in Waipawa where residents have reported someone trying to get into houses. On Tuesday night a resident in Domain Road was woken by someone trying to gain access through the front door. Thankfully the banging woke the resident who turned on lights and called Police, says Constable Walker.
